Chukwudi Nnayerugo, the Nigerian influencer known as Killaboi, who is standing trial for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwabhagbe, has told a Lagos High Court how he allegedly found messages in her Instagram account discussing payment for sex.
Nnayerugo testified on Tuesday before Justice Ibironke Harrison at the TBS Annex, Igbosere, Lagos.
He told the court that he started monitoring Augusta’s Instagram account after she returned to school in June 2023. According to him, he saw a message from an account bearing the name “Yako” where the sender called her “sweetheart” and asked to continue their conversation on Instagram.
He alleged that the chat later turned to a transaction, with Augusta insisting she would not reduce her fee.
The defendant said he then obtained a virtual SIM card, created a WhatsApp account with the name and profile picture of the said Yako, and continued chatting with Augusta while posing as him.
He claimed that during the conversation, she demanded N1.5 million for sex, turned down his offer of N800,000, and later agreed to his proposal. He further alleged that she agreed to have sex without protection on the condition that they both undergo medical tests.
Nnayerugo said the discovery left him shaken and emotionally distressed. He said he initially thought of luring her to a hotel to confront her but later dropped the idea.
He told the court that he later placed a video call to her, during which she screamed and dropped the phone upon seeing him. He said he confronted her about the alleged chats and told her the relationship was over.
He added that Augusta’s mother later questioned him for accessing her daughter’s account, telling him that it was wrong and could amount to a criminal offence.
Meanwhile, defence counsel, Marcel Oru, applied to the court to allow Augusta’s mother and brother to step out before a video recording was played, to spare them further emotional trauma. The prosecution counsel, Adebayo Araba, did not oppose the application.
Justice Harrison adjourned the matter till October 22 for continuation.
