Veteran Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko, has opened up on how the advent of social media created panic among older actors in the industry.
Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, the actor said many veterans at the time feared that the new platforms would render them jobless.
Kosoko said the concern was genuine because many of them were not computer literate like the younger generation.
His words: “When social media came, we were afraid. Is this not going to kick us out of business? Is this not going to kick us out completely? But, I must say that eventually, we were able to scale through by virtue of the fact that most of our junior colleagues are computer literate, unlike people like us.
“We eventually used it to our advantage, so we have to thank God for that.”
On artificial intelligence, the actor admitted he is still struggling to understand the technology.
“When I started seeing AI, I still don’t understand it till now,” he said.
Kosoko’s comments reflect how Nollywood’s old guard has had to adapt from traditional media to digital disruption, with AI now emerging as the next challenge for the creative industry.
