President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met with French President Emmanuel Macron for a private dinner at the Élysée Palace in Paris.
The dinner was disclosed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on X on Friday.
Onanuga said the meeting reflected the enduring relationship between Nigeria and France and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
According to Onanuga, the private dinner provided an opportunity for both leaders to exchange views on issues of mutual interest, ranging from economic partnership to global security.
The meeting is part of President Tinubu’s ongoing diplomatic engagements in Europe, aimed at attracting foreign investment and repositioning Nigeria as a key partner on the international stage.
Nigeria and France have enjoyed long-standing relations, with France being one of Nigeria’s major trading partners within the European Union. Both countries have collaborated in areas such as defence, education, energy, and infrastructure development.
The private dinner at the Élysée Palace, the official residence of the French President, is seen as a sign of the growing cordiality between both leaders. President Macron has in recent months shown keen interest in Africa’s economic development and security architecture.
Details of the discussions held during the dinner were not made public, but presidential sources hinted that both leaders discussed the political situation in West Africa, climate change, and ways to deepen cultural ties.
President Tinubu is expected to continue his engagements in Paris before returning to Nigeria.
