A Lokoja based schoolteacher is seeking help after a fire destroyed her rented apartment and left her and seven children without shelter.
The victim, Hajia Aisha Kende Dailla, a single mother from Lokoja Local Government Area, said the blaze broke out around 3 p.m. on August 28, 2026, at her residence at First 200 Units, Mallam Hassan Road, close to Wada Footballers Camp in Lokoja.
According to her, power had just been restored after three days of outage when she noticed fire from the ceiling. She linked it to a high voltage surge.
Residents and men of the Federal Fire Service battled the inferno, but the three bedroom apartment was completely burnt.
Dailla said nothing was salvaged. The fire consumed vital documents, her educational certificates, clothing, household items and belongings of the seven children, five biological children and two others in her custody.
It also destroyed goods she had collected on credit for her petty trading, which she uses to support the family.
Recounting her loss, she said: “I lost everything I have worked for over the years within a few minutes. My children and I are now homeless, with no food, no clothes and no means of survival.”
She said the family has since been moving between places, struggling for food, clothing and a roof over their heads.
She appealed for urgent assistance from the state government, the National Emergency Management Agency, corporate organisations and kind hearted individuals.
“I am calling on the Kogi State Government under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, as well as kind hearted Nigerians, to come to my aid in this moment of despair,” she said.
