PSG Midfielder Vitinha Calls For Ronaldo’s Return To Portugal Squad

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha has called for Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the Portugal national team, insisting that the entire dressing room wants the veteran forward back.

Vitinha spoke on Wednesday night after scoring in PSG’s 4-2 Champions League win away at Manchester City. In an interview with TNT Sports, the 26-year-old described the last international break as a difficult period for the team.

“It was a turbulent international break, full of high emotions,” Vitinha said.

“For my part, I just hope everything gets resolved for the best. I hope he returns and that everything turns out fine. The truth is, that’s what we all want. I hope he comes back and everything is sorted out.”

His comments come amid ongoing tension between Ronaldo and Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus.

The dispute started during the September international window when Ronaldo, 41, was left as an unused substitute in Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway, despite warming up for close to 30 minutes expecting to come on.

Days later, the Al Nassr forward left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen ahead of the game against Denmark. On October 6, Ronaldo released a statement apologising to his teammates but also accused Jesus of “breaking his word” regarding his playing time and post-match explanation.

Ronaldo said he remains committed to playing for Portugal and would accept any sanction from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).

The FPF has placed the captain under provisional suspension while its disciplinary investigation continues. No final decision has been announced, with proceedings remaining confidential until concluded.

Despite the controversy, Portugal won all four of their Nations League games during the break, with Vitinha featuring in each match. Ronaldo remains the nation’s all-time record holder with 146 goals in 234 appearances.

Portugal will return to action in November with matches against Denmark and Wales.
