The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has secured the conviction of a 37-year-old woman for sexually exploiting a minor in Borno State.
The convict, Fatima Sanda, was sentenced to two years imprisonment for procuring a 16-year-old girl and subjecting her to sexual exploitation by other persons.
NAPTIP disclosed the conviction in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Wednesday, after the judgment was delivered on Monday.
According to the agency, the judgment was delivered by Justice Aisha M. Ndume of Court 10 of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri.
The court found that her action contravened Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as amended.
Apart from the jail term, Justice Ndume also ordered the convict to pay the sum of N500,000 as compensation to the victim.
