7,500 Christians Killed In Africa In 33 Months, Intersociety Claims

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has alleged that about 7,500 Christians were killed across Africa in a wave of attacks.

The Nigerian human rights organisation released its latest report in Enugu on Tuesday, October 13, saying the killings were recorded alongside widespread attacks on Christian communities.

According to the report, more than 1,000 churches were burnt, attacked or destroyed during the period under review.

Chairman of the group, Emeka Umeagbalasi, said Nigeria accounted for the highest number of casualties, with between 3,426 and 4,300 Christians reportedly killed between January 1 and October 10, 2026.

He said the Democratic Republic of Congo recorded about 2,000 deaths, while Mozambique, Burkina Faso, South Sudan, Ethiopia and other countries accounted for the remaining 1,100 deaths.

Intersociety also claimed that 3,395 Christians were abducted in Nigeria, with 343 of the deaths occurring in just 40 days — from September 1 to October 10.

Within that 40-day period, Plateau State recorded 130 deaths and Adamawa 64. The group said 10 churches were destroyed, eight pastors abducted and two pastors killed.

It said its findings were based on monitoring of community reports, eyewitness accounts, survivor testimonies and media reports, and attributed the violence to jihadist groups. The figures remain claims by the organisation and have not been independently verified.
