Police Arrest Man With Fake ‘Presidency’ Number Plate In Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has arrested a man for using a fake number plate with the inscription ‘Presidency’ in Abuja.

The suspect was arrested on Monday, October 20, 2026, at about 8pm after operatives intercepted a Lexus LX570 SUV in Maitama district.

Confirming the arrest in a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the vehicle was found with a concealed number plate bearing ‘PRESIDENCY’ and registration number 10B218 FG.

According to Adeh, the occupant claimed he was the legitimate owner of the plate, but checks showed the registration documents were forged.

Further investigation revealed that the man was allegedly impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.

“The vehicle and its occupant were promptly arrested for investigation and subsequent prosecution,” the statement said.

The police said preliminary probe showed the plate was fake and the documents were not genuine.

Adeh added that investigation is still ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court once concluded.

The Command urged residents to obey the law, cooperate with police operations and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines 08032003913 and 08061581938.
