Veteran Super Falcons defender, Osinachi Ohale, has retired from international duty.
The 34-year-old centre-back confirmed her decision on Thursday, ending a 16 year journey with the national team.
She was the most experienced player in the current Falcons squad and was instrumental at the just ended Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In her 16 years, she played 86 matches for Nigeria, featured in four FIFA Women’s World Cups and seven WAFCON editions, lifting the trophy five times.
In a post on Instagram, she said retiring was a very tough call and that words are not enough to describe her feelings.
She recalled how she started as a young girl dreaming of playing for Nigeria and now leaves with 86 caps, five continental titles and memories of World Cups.
She added that she will forever cherish the friendships, sacrifices and the honour of singing the national anthem.
“I gave this jersey my youth, my sweat and my heart. If I had to do it all again, I would still choose Nigeria,” she said.
