The Lagos State Government has indefinitely shut down its Ejigbo Fire Station following repeated attacks on firefighters on duty.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said the attacks happened twice in four days, on Tuesday, October 13 and Friday, October 16, 2026.
According to the Service, the first attack was reported at the Ejigbo Police Station, but the suspects returned on Friday and assaulted personnel again, disrupting operations despite the intervention of senior police officers.
The Controller-General of the Service, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, condemned the incidents and said they pose a threat to public safety.
She said attacks on emergency responders can compromise operational readiness, delay response to emergencies and expose residents to avoidable risks.
Adeseye added that firefighters must be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence, intimidation or unlawful interference.
As a precautionary measure, the Service said personnel and firefighting equipment attached to Ejigbo station have been temporarily moved to an undisclosed location for safety.
The station will remain closed until the security concerns are satisfactorily resolved, while emergency response in the area will continue from the temporary location.
She called on security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation and ensure those responsible face legal action.
