DSS Arrests Suspects Linked To Abduction Of 20 Corps Members In Imo

Security operatives have arrested five persons in connection with the kidnapping of 20 prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps in Imo State.

It was gathered that the suspects were picked up by the Department of State Services during coordinated operations in Rivers and Abia states.

The victims, who were traveling from Ibadan to their orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom, were abducted on October 1, 2026, around Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.

They were later rescued on October 7 from Amakohia Ubi forest in Owerri West after a joint operation involving the DSS, Army and Police.

Sources said the suspects, identified as Ibrahim Jiji, Aminu Haliru, Mohammed Ali, Usman Aliyu and Babangida Aliyu, were arrested between October 10 and 14 in Port Harcourt and Aba.

Three other members of the gang were said to have escaped with gunshot wounds, as security agencies intensified manhunt for fleeing suspects.

The arrested persons were on Tuesday brought before the Justice Oputa High Court in Owerri.
