They were later rescued on October 7 from Amakohia Ubi forest in Owerri West after a joint operation involving the DSS, Army and Police.
Sources said the suspects, identified as Ibrahim Jiji, Aminu Haliru, Mohammed Ali, Usman Aliyu and Babangida Aliyu, were arrested between October 10 and 14 in Port Harcourt and Aba.
Three other members of the gang were said to have escaped with gunshot wounds, as security agencies intensified manhunt for fleeing suspects.
