The jail terms of a UK couple who murdered their 13-week-old baby have been increased by the Court of Appeal.
Klevi Pirjani, 37, and his wife Nivalda Santos Pirjani, 35, from Seacombe, Wallasey, were sentenced in March 2026 for the murder of baby Miguel.
Klevi was given life with a minimum of 19 years, while Nivalda received life with a minimum of 15 years and three months.
Judges ruled the terms were unduly lenient after the case was referred by Attorney General Ellie Reeves KC MP.
On October 27, 2026, Lord Justice Jeremy Baker, sitting with two other judges, increased Klevi’s minimum term to 21 years and six months and Nivalda’s to 17 years and nine months.
The court heard Miguel spent his first month in hospital before being discharged. Within days, he suffered two fractured ribs and was subjected to repeated assaults.
Medical reports showed he had 41 fractures in total, including to his ribs, legs, arm, collarbone and spine.
On November 24, 2024, he suffered a fatal blow to the head. Paramedics restarted his heart, but he never regained consciousness and died five days later at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
