A shocking operation by the So-Safe Corps of Ogun State led to the arrest of 12 men who were allegedly involved in robbing and extorting people at the Ogun-Lagos border areas.
The suspects, who were said to be cultists turned armed robbers, were nabbed on Tuesday after the Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the zonal commander, Ado-Odo/Ota Zonal Command, Tajudeen Odunmbaku, to apprehend them.
According to the corps spokesman, Moruf Yusuf, the suspects had been terrorising passengers and drivers at the Ajegunle bus stop area, snatching phones and other valuables, and forcing them to transfer money to a POS machine.
He said the suspects also operated at other border areas such as Toll Gate, Shoprite area, Dalemo bus stop, all in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, wielding dangerous weapons like knives, broken bottles and cutlasses.
The names and ages of the suspects were disclosed as follows: Mercy Aromolashe, 23; Abiodun Olatunji, 27; Ajala Sodiq, 27; Yusuf Ishaya, 29; Lukmon Ustman (aka Mafos), 25; Monday Oriyomi (aka Ajagbe), 25; Issa Ajibose Arogunmola (aka Figo), 28; Sulaimon Ogunshola (aka Akube), 26; Hamid Idris, 22; Oriyomi Joseph, 24; Timileyin Odubanjo, 22, and Israel Danladi (aka Star Boy), 21.
Ganzallo expressed concern over the audacity of the suspects, who carried out their crimes in broad daylight.
He said the corps recovered packs of Indian hemp and charms from them, and handed them over to the Sango Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
