Nigerian Comedian Broda Shaggi Recounts How Stray Bullet Nearly Ended His Life

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Samuel Animashaun Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggi, has opened up on how a stray bullet almost claimed his life earlier this year.

The skit maker recounted the harrowing experience in a video shared on his YouTube channel on Wednesday , October 21, ending months of silence away from the public eye.

According to him, the incident happened on March 9, 2026, while he was on a brand activation job around the Sango-Ota Bridge area in Ogun State.

Broda Shaggi explained that he and his crew had finished filming and were already leaving the location when they got stuck in traffic.

“Suddenly, what I heard was a loud bang and everywhere went silent. I could see people talking but I couldn’t hear anything. It was total silence in the car. Then I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when I realised I had been hit by a stray bullet,” he recounted.

He said he slipped into unconsciousness shortly after and only remembered praying while his team rushed him to the hospital.

“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.

The comedian was first taken to a private hospital in Alakuko, Lagos, where he received emergency first aid. Due to the severity of the injury and lack of specialized equipment, he was transferred to another facility in Ikeja, where he was moved into the emergency room.

Broda Shaggi said at that point his mind was overwhelmed by fear, and all he wanted was to hear a doctor assure him he would survive.

He later travelled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he underwent a successful surgery. He disclosed that his recovery was swift after the operation — he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches by the third day.

The entertainer also revealed that the injury made him fear for his career, especially his ability to dance and perform energetic skits which are central to his comedy brand. He said he spent months away from work, worried fans might forget him.

The Ogun State Police Command had earlier said it could not confirm if the incident occurred within its jurisdiction and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified reports while investigations continued.
