Students from 10 schools in Lagos have received tech gadgets and sports equipment under a youth empowerment initiative linking sports, technology and environmental sustainability.
The initiative, Project 9-12, third edition, was organised by JustUsed Tech in partnership with Passback, with support from the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, and other partners.
The beneficiary schools are Wesley Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Lagos City Senior College, Sabo-Yaba, Aiyetoro Senior Grammar School, Ebute-Metta, Oke-Odo Junior High School, Mainland Senior High School, Fadeyi, Mainland Junior High School, Fadeyi, Birrel Avenue Senior High School, Sabo-Yaba, Victokev Schools, Ikorodu, Jibowu Junior High School, Yaba, and Eletu Odibo Senior High School, Abule-Oja, Yaba.
Speaking at the event, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Government on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, said initiatives that combine youth development, technology, sports and sustainability help shape responsible citizens.
“Anything that has to do with our young ones, because they are the growing economy; anything that has to do with technology, because that is the next frontier; and anything that has to do with community, because that is the basis of any economy, should bring a lot of excitement,” she said.
She noted that sports is a strong passion point for young people and can be used to engage them while introducing sustainability values, adding that the initiative widens access to digital tools and sporting opportunities for underserved students.
