All is set for the 2026 Kwara Open Golf Championship at the Ilorin Golf Club, with about 100 golfers expected to compete.
The two-day tournament will hold from October 10 to 11 at the Ilorin Golf Club, Kwara State capital, and will feature players from more than 15 clubs across the country.
According to the organisers, golfers from Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan and other states will converge on Ilorin for one of the most important amateur titles on the state’s golf calendar, which has also grown into a sports tourism attraction.
The championship will be contested in different categories including men, ladies and veterans, giving players in each category a chance to compete for honours.
It will also provide an opportunity for home-based players from Kwara to test their skills against golfers from more established clubs nationwide.
Captain of Ilorin Golf Club, Luqman Owolewa, said the event promotes the game in the state and connects golfers from neighbouring states.
“This event promotes the game in the state and is a platform that connects golfers across the country, especially players from neighbouring states,” he said.
Owolewa added that the club’s hospitality and ambience have continued to attract participants, contributing to the strong turnout recorded over the years.
The tournament is expected to boost economic activities in Ilorin through increased patronage of hotels, restaurants and transportation services.
The event is backed by the Kwara State Government and corporate organisations.
