The German Embassy in Nigeria has told visa applicants to stop paying agents who claim they can guarantee a German visa.
The warning was posted Wednesday on the embassy’s official X account, @GERinNigeria, by the German Missions in Abuja and Lagos.
The embassy said it does not work with any visa agent. All information on how to apply is free on its website.
It said many Nigerians have reported paying millions to agents who promised them jobs and visas in Germany, but the promises turned out to be false.
According to the embassy, no one outside the embassy can decide a visa. Approval depends only on whether the applicant meets the requirements.
It also said visa appointments are free and should be booked directly on the official portal. Applicants should not pay anyone to get a slot and should not send documents by email to get an appointment.
