Former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has died at the age of 71.
Uduaghan passed away in the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, just three days before his 72nd birthday.
His death was confirmed in a statement by the family signed by Toju Anire Uduaghan, who described him as a beloved father, brother, uncle and patriarch.
Uduaghan was a medical doctor and politician who served as governor of the oil-rich state from 2007 to 2015.

Before going into politics, he worked at Delta Steel Company, Westend Hospital Warri, Benoni Hospitals Benin City and Shell Hospital Ogunu. He later established his private practice in 1994.
His political career started under his cousin, former Governor James Ibori. He served as Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and as Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007 before he was elected governor in 2007 and re-elected in 2011.
