CAF Confirms Awards Date In Lagos

The Confederation of African Football has confirmed Lagos as the host city for the 2026 CAF Awards.

The prestigious ceremony will hold on Monday, December 7, 2026 at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, formerly known as the National Theatre. This will be the fourth time Lagos will host the awards after previous editions in 2008, 2013 and 2014, and the first time Nigeria will host since Abuja staged the 2016 edition in January 2017.

CAF also confirmed that Nigeria will host the CAF Ordinary General Assembly on Saturday, November 21, 2026 at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

The dates were approved following a virtual meeting of the CAF Executive Committee chaired by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe on Friday, October 2, 2026. President Bola Tinubu had earlier approved Nigeria’s bid to host both events, and a five person CAF inspection team visited facilities in Lagos and Abuja in July.

The awards night will bring together top players, coaches and administrators from across the continent to honour outstanding performances. The current holders of the men’s and women’s Player of the Year awards are Moroccan duo Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak.

CAF also confirmed other key dates in its calendar, including the CAF Strategy Conference in Sal, Cabo Verde from October 7 to 9, the CAF Women’s Champions League from November 1 to 15, and the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal from November 28 to December 6.
