A 43-year-old Australian woman has been charged for allegedly poisoning her colleague’s curry with snail pellets.
The incident happened on February 12 at a workplace in Oldbury, south-east of Perth.
The victim, 58, had brought curry to work to share during morning tea. It was eaten by staff without any problem.
Police said the suspect later entered a chemical storage shed and then went to the staff room where the leftover food was kept.
When the owner returned for lunch, she noticed bright green granules in the curry. After tasting a small amount, her tongue became numb.
She reported the case and handed the meal to detectives.
Lab analysis confirmed the granules were snail pellets containing metaldehyde, a toxic substance that can cause serious injury or death.
The suspect was arrested in Golden Bay on October 8 after an eight-month investigation. Police said she had a personal relationship with the victim.
She has been charged with endangering the life, health or safety of another person and will appear at the Armadale Magistrates Court on November 5.
