The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, has won the by-election for Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency held on Saturday.
Kallamu polled 41,121 votes to defeat four other contestants in the poll conducted to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives.
The seat became vacant following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency, Yaya Bauchi Tongo.
Declaring the result on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Umar Gurama, announced Kallamu as winner having scored the highest number of votes.
According to him, 47,301 votes were cast in the election, with 46,551 valid and 750 rejected.
A breakdown of the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission showed that the APC secured 41,121 votes, Labour Party 3,553 votes, Allied Peoples Movement 872 votes, Nigeria Democratic Party 707 votes, and African Peoples Party 298 votes.
The by-election was held across 903 polling units in 31 Registration Areas covering Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas.
Kallamu will now represent the constituency in the House of Representatives for the remainder of the tenure.
