The House of Representatives has summoned the Chief Executive Officers of MTN Nigeria, Airtel, Globacom and other telecom operators over persistent poor network quality across the country, threatening to issue arrest warrants against those who fail to appear.
The summons was issued on Wednesday by the House Ad Hoc Committee investigating the quality of telecommunications services in Nigeria.
The Committee, chaired by Rep. Olumide Osoba (APC, Ogun), directed the CEOs of MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom (Glo), Mafab Communications and other service providers to appear before it on October 28, 2026.
The directive followed the failure of some operators, including MTN and Mafab Communications, to honour previous invitations.
The resolution was reached after the adoption of two motions sponsored by Reps Sunday Umeha and Afam Ogene.
According to the committee, the operators are expected to appear at 2 p.m. at Hearing Room 447 of the New Building of the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, and submit relevant documents explaining the persistent decline in service quality.
The lawmakers also directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ensure full compliance with the summons.
Osoba said telecommunications services have become indispensable to Nigeria’s economy, extending beyond voice calls and internet access to critical commercial activities, including Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions and financial services.
He said the growing dependence of businesses and essential services on telecom networks makes persistent disruptions a matter of serious national concern.
“The House constituted this Ad Hoc Committee to investigate recurring complaints from subscribers and establish the factors responsible for the poor quality of services,” Osoba stated.
The committee warned that any CEO who fails to honour the invitation risks being compelled to appear through a summons for arrest.
