Nigeria’s Flamingos have emerged champions of the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup after thrashing Togo 4-0 in the final in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.
The Flamingos completed a perfect campaign on Sunday, winning all five matches to lift the trophy unbeaten.
Captain Chidera Harmony was the star of the final, scoring two first-half penalties to put Nigeria in control. She opened scoring in the 15th minute before converting another spot-kick in the 35th minute to make it 2-0 at halftime.
Nigeria continued to dominate after the break, with Oluebube Umejiaku extending the lead in the 67th minute before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the 90th minute.
The win capped an impressive tournament for coach Hakeem Busari’s side who scored 17 goals and conceded only two throughout the competition.
The Flamingos began their campaign with a 5-0 win over Niger Republic, defeated Ghana 4-2, beat Burkina Faso 2-0, and overcame hosts Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 before the final victory over Togo.
The regional title is a major boost for the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco next month, where Nigeria will face Poland, North Korea and Puerto Rico in Group B.
The team, bronze medallists at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, are expected back in Nigeria on Tuesday.
