Yilwatda Hails Candidates as APC Wins Four of Five By-Elections

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has congratulated the party’s candidates who won four of the five legislative by-elections conducted on Saturday.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday, Yilwatda congratulated Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, Husseini Datti, Okolosi Ator and Yakubu Ali, who won in Gombe, Kano, Delta and Bauchi states respectively.

The by-elections were held in one federal constituency and four state constituencies across four states. While the APC won four seats, the Allied Peoples Movement clinched the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi.

Yilwatda said the victories showed the confidence voters have in the party.

“I warmly congratulate the four APC candidates who emerged victorious in the five legislative by-elections conducted by INEC on Saturday, 19 September 2026,” he said.

He listed the winners as Kallamu of Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Datti of Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano, Ator of Udu State Constituency in Delta, and Ali of Disina State Constituency in Bauchi.

“I commend our candidates, party leaders, state chapters, campaign teams and, most importantly, the voters for their commitment to the democratic process. I also commend INEC, the security agencies and all stakeholders for their roles,” he added.

In Gombe, Kallamu polled 41,121 votes to defeat Labour Party which scored 3,553 votes and APM which had 872 votes.

In Kano, Datti won Dawakin Kudu with 22,890 votes, while PRP and PDP polled 270 and 108 votes respectively.

In Delta, Ator won Udu with 8,724 votes against PDP’s 214 votes.

In Bauchi, Ali won Disina with 5,846 votes, while APM and PRP scored 5,225 and 3,701 votes respectively. However, APM won Sakwa with 8,515 votes against APC’s 3,771 votes, PDP’s 2,076 votes and PRP’s 727 votes.

Yilwatda urged the winners to see their victory as a call to service and to provide purposeful representation to their constituents.
