The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has warned motorists to beware of fraudulent text messages and links claiming they have committed traffic offences.
The ministry, in an advisory posted on its official X handle on Friday, said the messages are attempts by fraudsters to deceive motorists and steal sensitive personal and banking information.
It urged members of the public not to click on unverified links, share personal information or make payments through third-party platforms.
According to the ministry, the fraudulent messages and websites often appear to offer opportunities to settle alleged traffic offences but are instead designed to obtain confidential information from unsuspecting victims.
The ministry also cautioned motorists against platforms offering discounts on traffic penalties, noting that Lagos State does not offer discounts on traffic fines across any of its platforms and that all statutory fines remain fixed.
Motorists were advised to verify the authenticity of traffic tickets and check their vehicle status only through the state’s approved platforms, which it listed as http://payvis.ng and http://tms.lagosstate.gov.ng.
The ministry further urged the public to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited messages concerning traffic violations and to avoid making payments or providing personal and banking details through suspicious links.
The warning comes amid rising cases of fraudulent online platforms targeting motorists with fake traffic offence notices and payment requests.
