The West African Examinations Council has named Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
Dangut, who until recently headed the Nigeria National Office, will serve a five-year term from October 2026 to September 2031.
He succeeds Alhaji Pateh Bah of The Gambia and assumed office on October 1, 2026 as the 14th Registrar to Council.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters, Accra, Demianus Ojijeogu.
According to Ojijeogu, Dangut’s appointment was ratified by Council, the international governing board of WAEC, at its 74th Annual Meeting held in Accra in March 2026.
Born October 2, 1967, Dangut holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production, Master of Science and PhD in Animal Science, as well as a Master of Education in Administration and Planning.
He began his career in education in 1994 at St. Louis College, Jos, where he served as a WAEC examiner before joining the Council in 1998.
Since then, he has served in various capacities including Assistant Registrar, Test Development Division, Ogba, Lagos; Head of Examinations Security and Deputy Branch Controller in Uyo and Bauchi; Branch Controller in Yola; Controller, Post-Examinations Department; and Zonal Coordinator, Ikeja.
He was appointed Head of the Nigeria National Office on October 2, 2023 and held the position until September 2026.
As head of the national office, he championed technology-driven reforms including the rollout of Computer-Based WASSCE, serialization of question papers, digital electronic marking system, digital certificate portal and WAEC e-study platform.
