A 42-year-old man has died after an incident on a rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in the United States.
The Cobb County Police Department said officers responded to the park in Austell, about 15 miles from Atlanta, on Monday afternoon after reports of a fatality.
Police identified the victim as Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, of Atlanta. According to preliminary findings, he was ejected from the ride, struck other patrons, and fell beneath the attraction. He was found unresponsive and not breathing.
Several other people were injured, although officials have not released details about their conditions.
The park did not initially confirm which ride was involved, but aerial footage showed the Goliath coaster stopped on the track with staff helping riders down. Goliath, which opened in 2006, is a hypercoaster with a height of 200 feet and speeds of up to 70 mph.
Six Flags said it was deeply saddened by the incident and extended its condolences to the victim’s family, friends and loved ones.
Witnesses who spoke to local media described seeing a man come out of his seat during the ride. Those accounts have not been independently verified by the BBC.
The Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating, while the park remained closed on Tuesday following the incident.
