Terrorists Attack Borno Military Base, Soldiers Feared Dead

Terrorists have attacked a military base in Borno State, with soldiers feared dead in the incident.

It was gathered that the terrorists launched the attack on the base in a coordinated manner, firing heavy weapons as they attempted to breach the facility. The assault triggered a fierce gun battle between the attackers and troops stationed at the base.

Security sources who confirmed the incident said the attack occurred after the insurgents stormed the area in large numbers, shooting sporadically to overpower the soldiers on duty.

Sources said some soldiers were feared dead, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries during the encounter. Military hardware at the base was also said to have been affected, though details remain unclear.

Residents of nearby communities told our correspondent that they heard prolonged gunshots for hours, a development that caused panic and forced many locals to flee their homes for safety.

According to a security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the troops engaged the terrorists gallantly and succeeded in repelling the attack after reinforcement was deployed to the area.

The source added that a search operation has been launched in the surrounding bushes to track down the fleeing attackers and prevent a repeat of the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, the military authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the attack or the number of casualties recorded.

Borno State has continued to witness terrorist attacks despite sustained counter-insurgency operations by the Nigerian Armed Forces in the North-East region.

Normalcy is said to have been restored in the affected area, with increased security presence to forestall further attacks.
