Rivers Police Command Removes DPO After Suspected Cultists Renovate Abuloma Outpost

The Rivers State Police Command has removed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Abuloma Division over the controversial renovation of a police outpost in the area by suspected cultists.

The command also relieved the officer directly supervising the Abuloma Police Outpost of his duties, pending the outcome of an investigation.

The action followed a viral video that surfaced on Thursday, October 15, 2026, showing individuals believed to be cultists celebrating after renovating the outpost located around Okuru Junction, Abuloma in Port Harcourt.

Reacting to the video, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the renovation.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Friday, October 16, 2026, in Port Harcourt.

According to the statement, the two senior officers have been queried and removed from their positions as an administrative measure while the probe continues.

“The command has taken cognizance of the trending video showing suspected cultists at the Abuloma Police Outpost after a purported renovation,” the statement said. “The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the affected outpost have been queried and relieved of their duties pending investigation.”

The commissioner directed investigators to establish the identities of those behind the renovation, whether due diligence and background checks were conducted, and who authorized the project without following approved procedures.

The command stressed that police facilities are public institutions meant for law enforcement and public safety, and must not be used as platforms for criminal groups to seek validation or influence.

It added that while community support for police infrastructure is welcome, such support must comply with the law and must not compromise the independence and integrity of the Force.

The command assured residents that the investigation will be thorough and that further actions will be taken based on its findings.
