The Enugu State Police Command has identified the woman allegedly killed by her boyfriend in Enugu as 27 year old Chinyere Rosemary Ugwu.
Ugwu, a graduate of Medical Laboratory Science from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, had recently completed her National Youth Service Corps programme.
The Command disclosed her identity on Friday in an update on the incident.
The suspect, 30 year old Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, was arrested at his residence in the Olympic Layout area of Enugu where the crime was allegedly committed.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that Emmanuel allegedly killed Ugwu after an argument over who infected the other with Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
He was said to have struck her on the head with a pestle, resulting in her death, before wrapping her remains in nylon and concealing them inside the toilet of his apartment.
The decomposing body was discovered after neighbours, attracted by offensive odour from the apartment, forced the door open and apprehended the suspect before the arrival of policemen from the Awkunanaw Division.
The police said the deceased’s parents and siblings have been identified and interviewed.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, who met with the family, has assured them that justice will be served in the case.
