Residents of the north-eastern United States are facing a powerful storm known as a nor’easter, which has knocked out power and caused flooding across the region.

The New York City Housing Authority said on Saturday one of its employees was killed by a fallen tree in Brooklyn, as the storm battered the city with rain and strong winds.
The victim was identified as 56 year old Leighton Brown. Police said he was struck while walking through East New York around 3:30 p.m. when gusts toppled a tree.
He was rushed to Brookdale Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have warned residents that extreme conditions could pose risks and urged people to stay away from flooded areas.
The nor’easter brought dangerous coastal flooding, heavy rainfall and winds of up to 55 mph to New York City, Long Island and New Jersey, with states of emergency declared in both states.
More than 100,000 customers lost power at the peak of the storm, while hundreds of flights were cancelled and travel was disrupted from Virginia to Maine.
