NiMet forecasts 3-day thunderstorms, moderate rains across Nigeria

 

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy skies, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday, the agency said the weather will affect the Northern, North-Central and Southern regions.

For Monday, NiMet predicted patches of clouds over the northern region in the morning, with thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains later in the day.

In the North-Central, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains later over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau states.

For the South, cloudy skies with light rains are expected in the morning over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. Intermittent moderate rains are expected across most parts of the region later in the day.

For Tuesday, the agency forecast cloudy skies over the northern region, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Taraba and Adamawa. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected across most parts of the region later in the day.

NiMet also predicted cloudy conditions over North-Central, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Benue, Kogi, Plateau and Nasarawa, followed by isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains across the region later.

In the South, cloudy conditions with light rains are expected in the morning over parts of Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom, with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains later.

For Wednesday, similar conditions are expected to persist with cloudy skies, thunderstorms and moderate rains across the three regions.

NiMet advised residents to take precautions as thunderstorms may be preceded by strong winds. It also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning.
