The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 37 year old man for allegedly raping a 70 year old woman in Igueben Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing on the operational achievements recorded by the command in the past week.
Ikoedem, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor said the suspect is currently in custody while investigation into the allegation continues.
She said sexual violence remains a serious concern in the state. She said the command has in custody a 37 year old male suspect in connection with the alleged rape of the 70 year old woman in Igueben and that the case is being thoroughly investigated.
According to her, the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon conclusion of investigation.
In another development, the PPRO said operatives of the Otuo Division arrested seven suspected cult members in an intelligence-driven operation aimed at curbing cult-related activities.
She also disclosed that operatives of the Gender and Family Unit recovered a six-month-old baby allegedly stolen from Edo and taken to Imo State, adding that the baby has been reunited with the family and suspects connected to the incident have been arrested.
The command urged residents to provide credible information to assist police investigations and warned against cultism and misuse of social media.
