Two persons have died in separate incidents of arson and stabbing in Jigawa State, with police arresting two suspects.
The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the arrests for alleged mischief by fire, culpable homicide and grievous hurt in Gwaram and Dutse Local Government Areas.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, said in a statement on Wednesday that the first incident occurred on September 29, at about 11:30pm, when one Abbas Ibrahim, 27, of Nassarawa village, Gwaram LGA, allegedly jumped over the fence into his elder brother’s residence.
He said the suspect, who claimed to be of unsound mind, poured petrol inside the room and set it ablaze. The victim, Basiru Shuaibu, 25, and his wife sustained serious burns and were taken by relatives to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment, where Basiru later died.
Adam said Ibrahim was arrested in Sara town, Gwaram LGA, and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse, where he has been arraigned.
In a second incident on October 1 in Dutse LGA, a 20 year old, Lawisi Safiyanu of Chamo village, allegedly stabbed Muhammad Abba, 25, following a dispute over N500 balance. Abba had bought a mobile handset for N1,500, paid N1,000 and owed N500.
