The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Shehu Umar Nadada, to Imo State to coordinate the search and rescue operation for 20 prospective corps members abducted in the state.
The victims were kidnapped on Thursday, October 1, along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Umunoha.
The development was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, from Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the statement, Nadada arrived in Imo with two Commissioners of Police and immediately conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the incident and the ongoing rescue operation led by the Imo State Police Command.
The DIG also reviewed operational strategies, deployment of personnel and security assets, and issued new directives to strengthen coordination and boost efforts to locate and rescue the victims.
The assessment was carried out alongside the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, the Commissioner of Police, Federal Operations, Akpan Anifiok; the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force, other service commanders and senior officers of the Command.
The police said the operation has been intensified with additional tactical teams and equipment deployed to identified areas, backed by intelligence led tracking of the suspects, in collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted persons and apprehension of the perpetrators.
