The Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered N84 million and returned it to an Edo State businessman, Ekhahon Abraham, who was defrauded in a land transaction.
The Commission disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Friday, saying the money was recovered from one Anita Eborome.
According to the anti-graft agency, Abraham was defrauded of the sum under the pretence of selling a parcel of land measuring 115 feet by 135 feet in a community in Edo State.
The businessman said after paying for the land, he erected a perimeter fence on it, but the structure was later pulled down by a man who claimed to be the rightful owner of the property.
Following the development, he demanded a refund from Eborome but met a brick wall as she allegedly became evasive. He was thereafter advised to petition the Commission.
During investigation, the EFCC discovered that Abraham actually transferred the money to Eborome but she diverted it for her personal use.
Presenting the N84 million bank draft to Abraham on Friday, September 25, 2026, the acting Zonal Director and Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, said the Commission would continue to discharge its duties professionally.
He added that the EFCC would ensure fraudsters are denied the opportunity to reap where they did not sow.
