Electricity distribution companies collected N603.64bn from customers in the second quarter of 2026 despite receiving less electricity from the grid
Data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission shows that average energy offtake by the 11 DisCos fell to 3,197.03 megawatt hours per hour in Q2 from 3,309.48MWh/h in Q1, a decline of 3.40 percent
During the quarter the DisCos received 6,982.32 gigawatt hours of electricity valued at N946.57bn but billed customers for only 5,812.31GWh worth N744.67bn, leaving a billing loss of N201.9bn
Billing efficiency dropped to 78.67 percent from 79.24 percent in Q1 while energy accounting efficiency was 83.24 percent
Collection however improved. The DisCos recovered N603.64bn out of N744.67bn billed, representing 81.06 percent collection efficiency compared to 78.95 percent in Q1. The unpaid gap stood at N141.03bn
Benin DisCo recorded the highest collection efficiency at 92.68 percent followed by Ikeja at 92.20 percent and Eko at 89.39 percent. Kano DisCo had the lowest at 47.74 percent
Overall Aggregate Technical Commercial and Collection losses stood at 36.23 percent. The report also shows the DisCos remitted N306.62bn out of N326.46bn invoice from NBET, a remittance performance of 93.92 percent
