The United States has revoked more than 300,000 visas since President Donald Trump began his second term in January 2025.
The US State Department disclosed the figure on Tuesday, October 20, saying the revocations were carried out at a faster pace than any previous administration.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott, who announced the number on X, said the administration has “zero tolerance for foreigners here on visas who break the law, commit fraud, or undermine our national security.”
According to a senior State Department official, most of the visas were cancelled due to criminal activity, threats to public safety, immigration violations, fraud and misrepresentation. The official said more than 4,000 of the cases were linked to birth tourism.
Data shared by the department shows 25 percent of the revocations in 2025 were linked to assault and related offences, 22 percent to driving under the influence, while theft and substance abuse accounted for 7 percent each.
The new figure marks a sharp increase from earlier updates. On August 10, the department had put the number at over 175,000, while in September it confirmed 250,000 revocations.
The Trump administration says its immigration crackdown and deportation drive are aimed at improving domestic security. Rights groups, however, have criticised the measures, alleging violations of due process and free speech, particularly in cases involving pro-Palestinian foreign protesters and foreigners flagged over social media posts.
The State Department said it will continue to enforce tightened screening and take further action to secure US borders.
