JAMB Warns Universities Over Issuance Of Admission Letters To Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned universities against issuing admission letters to candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

The Board said issuing such letters is outside the mandate of universities.

The warning was given by the Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, when he received a delegation from Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, which paid him a courtesy visit in his office on October 15, 2026.

According to him, JAMB remains the only body statutorily empowered to issue official admission letters to candidates seeking entry into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education in Nigeria.

He expressed concern that once candidates see a document emanating from an institution offering them admission, they believe it is genuine, even when it does not follow due process.

He therefore charged universities involved in the act to desist, adding that they have a responsibility to ensure candidates obtain the correct documents from the Board.

Prof. Aina recalled that the Federal Ministry of Education had directed that all admissions must be conducted through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), noting that anything done outside the system is illegal and invalid.

He stressed that no institution is allowed to replace the official JAMB admission letter issued after a candidate has accepted an offer on CAPS with its own letter.

He added that only admissions processed through CAPS are recognised and will be accepted for mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and other official verification.
