Federal agents searched the Washington, D.C. home of Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
Three sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to CBS News that the raid was carried out by Homeland Security Investigations, the criminal investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security.
The investigation centers on Omar’s immigration paperwork dating back to her childhood, involving documents completed by her late father when she was a child, sources told CBS.
The Justice Department confirmed that HSI executed a search warrant secured by the DOJ, saying it was part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
Border czar Tom Homan said in September that there was an ongoing criminal investigation into Omar, telling Fox News that something reported needed to be looked at. Omar at the time said she had not been contacted in connection to any investigation.
Omar, a Minnesota Democrat and a frequent target of President Trump, has previously denied allegations of immigration fraud.
