Trump Chooses Top Spy Boss To Run New AI Taskforce

President Donald Trump has named his top intelligence chief to lead a new federal artificial intelligence taskforce.

Trump announced on Sunday that Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will head the newly created Super Intelligence Force. He made the announcement on Truth Social.

Trump said the taskforce will coordinate federal efforts to “ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence” and to “protect the interests, and improve the lives, of all Americans.”

Clayton was appointed intelligence chief in August and oversees 18 US intelligence agencies. He previously served as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission during Trump’s first term.

The Super Intelligence Force is Trump’s preferred name for AI. He recently signed an executive order directing federal agencies to use the terms “super intelligence” and “SI” instead of artificial intelligence.

The taskforce will oversee government engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and AI companies.

Clayton will be joined by three vice-chairs: FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon technology chief Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. Other members include Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Former AI czar David Sacks will serve as an outside adviser.

The group will report directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. Clayton told the Wall Street Journal the taskforce has 120 days to produce a report on AI risks and opportunities.

Clayton said, “The risk of not being first is high. Not being first increases the identified, and unidentified, risks, particularly from our adversaries.”

Trump has resisted heavy regulation of AI, arguing it would hand an advantage to China. Last week, executives from OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Nvidia signed a voluntary White House Accord on Super Intelligence that Trump described as “morally binding.”
