A room in a residential building in Ilorin, Kwara State, has been gutted by fire following a spark from solar wiring.
The incident occurred at No. 38 Oluwalogbon Street, Ijooro area of Asa-Dam on Tuesday.
The Kwara State Fire Service said it received a distress call and firefighters arrived at the scene at 4.14pm. The officers commenced firefighting operations immediately and prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adekunle.
According to the statement, the affected building comprises approximately three-bedroom flats and the fire was restricted to one room.
Preliminary investigation indicated that a spark from the solar wiring ignited combustible materials inside the room.
The Chief Fire Officer, Alabi Muhammed commended the firefighters for their swift response and urged residents to pay closer attention to safety of solar and electrical installations.
He advised property owners to engage qualified professionals for electrical and solar installations and to ensure that faulty or damaged wiring is promptly repaired to prevent fire outbreaks.
The Fire Service also emphasized the need for regular maintenance of solar installations and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
