Canada-based Nigerian arrested for sexual assault

A 28-year-old Nigerian man, Adebayo Maoli, has been arrested in Toronto, Canada, over alleged sexual assault and indecent acts on the city’s public transit system.

Maoli, a Toronto resident, was arrested by the Toronto Police Service following two separate incidents involving three victims.

According to the police, the first incident occurred on September 1 at about 3:00 p.m. aboard a southbound Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) subway train at King Station, where the suspect allegedly exposed himself to two passengers.

Police said the victims activated the train’s emergency alarm, prompting the suspect to exit the train and flee.

The second incident allegedly occurred on October 3 at about 12:10 a.m. at College Station. Investigators said Maoli followed a passenger who alighted from a subway train onto an escalator and allegedly exposed himself to the victim.

The police said the victim verbally confronted him before he fled the area.

Maoli has been charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of indecent act. He was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on October 9.

The Toronto Police Service said it believes there may be more victims and has appealed to the public to come forward with information.

The police added that the investigation is ongoing and the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
