Police arrest ex-convict over robbery of POS operators in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27 year old ex-convict over alleged robbery of Point of Sale, POS, operators in Awka.

The suspect, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as Timaya, was arrested on Friday afternoon, October 9, during an intelligence led operation.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Ikenga said Eleh was linked to a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting POS operators and other unsuspecting victims in the state capital.

He said operatives recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other incriminating items suspected to be connected to the robberies.

“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full extent of his alleged involvement and identify other accomplices. Further developments shall be communicated as the weekend patrol commences,” Ikenga stated.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The command urged POS operators and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
