The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted illicit drugs valued at N3.6 billion concealed as cookies and gummies at the Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.
The seizures were made by the Tin Can Island Port Command in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oscar Ivara, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the interception was achieved through sustained vigilance and inter-agency cooperation.
Ivara explained that officers intercepted a 40-foot container marked MSDU655132/0 on September 2, 2026. A 100 per cent joint physical examination revealed 890 packs of Delta-8 cannabis-infused cookies and gummies weighing 598.08 kilogrammes.
The illicit items were concealed alongside two used vehicles – a 2008 Mercedes-Benz and a 2012 Nissan Infiniti.
He added that a second 40-foot container with number SKU625643/6 was intercepted on September 16, 2026.
Examination of the container uncovered 1,207 packages of Cannabis Indica weighing 603.75 kilogrammes, with an estimated street value of N3.62 billion. Two used Toyota Sienna, two used Toyota Corolla vehicles and used engine spare parts were also found in the container.
According to him, the combined weight of the seizures is 1,201.83 kilogrammes, with a total street value of N3.67 billion.
Ivara said smugglers are now exploiting containerised cargo to conceal illicit substances among vehicles and spare parts, but Customs remains committed to blocking the entry of prohibited items through the nation’s seaports.
