INEC set to unveil 2027 election plans as 100-day countdown begins

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday unveil its level of preparedness for the 2027 general elections as the countdown enters 100 days.

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, will lead a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting scheduled for 10am at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

According to a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, the commission will provide updates on the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures to safeguard the integrity of the polls.

The presidential and National Assembly elections are fixed for February 20, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on March 6.

The meeting will bring together political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society groups, observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.

INEC said the engagement underscores its commitment to transparency and collaborative engagement, adding that attendance is strictly by invitation. The event will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed on INEC’s official platforms.
