Coca-Cola System Generates $1bn Economic Value In Nigeria

The Coca-Cola System in Nigeria supported about 160,200 jobs across the country in 2024 and generated $1bn in value-added economic activity, according to a Socio Economic Impact Assessment conducted by global consultancy Steward Redqueen.

The study examined the economic contributions of the Coca-Cola System, comprising Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited and its authorised bottler, Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), using the Leontief input-output economic model.

According to the report, of the 160,200 jobs supported across its value chain, 2,989 were direct employees, while over 157,200 were indirect jobs sustained across sectors such as agriculture, logistics, retail, hospitality, manufacturing and distribution.

The assessment found that for every direct job created by the company, an additional 53 jobs were supported elsewhere in the economy, reflecting the multiplier effect of its operations and supply chain.

It also disclosed that the system spent about $601m annually on goods and services sourced from local suppliers, noting that a significant proportion of ingredients, packaging materials and other production inputs are sourced, produced and distributed locally.

The report further highlighted the company’s investments in environmental sustainability, including waste management and water stewardship, pointing to the packaging collection hub launched in Apapa, Lagos, which can process 13,000 metric tonnes of PET plastic annually and is expected to support about 1,000 informal waste collectors.
