Coca-Cola Targets Fresh $1bn Nigeria Investment Over Five Years

The Coca-Cola System in Nigeria has announced plans to invest an additional $1 billion in the country over the next five years.

The disclosure was contained in a statement shared with Punch Online on Saturday. The company said the fresh investment is contingent on a predictable and enabling policy environment.

According to the release, the announcement followed a new socio-economic assessment of the Coca-Cola System in Nigeria conducted in 2024 by global consultancy, Steward Redqueen.

The study examined the economic contributions of Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited and its authorised bottler, Nigerian Bottling Company, using the Leontief input-output economic model.

The assessment found that the Coca-Cola System supported about 160,200 jobs across its value chain during the period under review. This comprised 2,989 direct employees and over 157,200 jobs sustained indirectly across sectors such as agriculture, logistics, retail, hospitality and distribution.

The report further noted that for every direct job created by the company, an additional 53 jobs were supported elsewhere in the economy through its supply chain activities.

Beyond employment, the study estimated that the Coca-Cola System generated about $1 billion in value added economic activity within Nigeria.

It also disclosed that the company spent approximately $601 million annually on goods and services sourced from local suppliers. According to the assessment, a substantial share of ingredients, packaging materials and other production inputs are sourced, produced and distributed locally.

The report also highlighted the System’s investments in environmental sustainability, including waste management and water stewardship initiatives across the country.
