Barcelona are planning a special tribute for Lionel Messi once the renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou is fully completed in 2028.
Club president Joan Laporta confirmed the plan during the club’s General Assembly on Saturday.
“We are planning for the Leo Messi tribute once the Spotify Camp Nou is completed. It will be a beautiful tribute. We hope to complete the stadium by the start of 2028,” Laporta said.
The tribute is intended to give the club’s greatest-ever player the proper stadium farewell he missed after his abrupt exit in 2021.
Messi joined Barcelona as a teenager and spent nearly two decades at the club, becoming its most decorated player and all-time top scorer with 672 goals in 778 games.
The Argentine forward left in 2021 after Barcelona were unable to renew his contract due to financial constraints and joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent before moving to Inter Miami in 2023, where his contract runs until 2028.
Barcelona have continued to maintain ties with Messi despite his departure. Laporta said the tribute will be held in front of a full-capacity crowd once the 105,000-seat venue is ready.
